So what if it's 3 years late? If you find something that someone is passionate about they can talk for hours. So here's what I want to talk about.

My journey began sometime during my senior year of high school ('07-'08). The first time I was browsing deviantart I was mainly using it for desktop backgrounds. The first desktop background I can truly remember using consistently was a young shirtless couple embracing romantically. It reflects a time when I was obsesses with dating and all that came with it. I used a few other images as backgrounds, but for the most part, I remained hidden, with no account to speak of.

About the same amount of time that most people of my graduating class would be starting their first day of college, I found myself starting my first day of boot camp; I had become a soldier in the United States Army. I could tell you how much it sucked, but this is about my journey with deviantart. Joining the military enabled me to go to college with 90% of all tuition covered by my VA benefits when I got out. I won't bore you with the details of why I didn't get 100% coverage.

During my college career, I was eventually required to find a way to display an online portfolio and for some reason, I could think of no better way to do this than with deviantart. So I present to you, my first deviation:
Cow with insomnia by tanya6k

It's not much to look at. I was only just starting to use Adobe Illustrator. By the time I posted this image, I was already developing a strong preference towards photoshop. I couldn't understand the pen tool at all and swore up and down that I would never use it again. Much has changed since this first image, and now I can't imagine life without a tool that I once hated.

Funny story behind this image: I actually took the illustrator classes backwards. I took the advanced class first, followed by the beginner's class. It yielded some pretty interesting results to say the least. One example of the interesting results can be seen below.

The 3-d mapping lesson for the advanced class when I was just a novice was:
lover's lane by tanya6k

On the flipside, when I was in the beginner's class as an intermediate, the 3-d mapping lesson turned into this:
3-D Kitchen by tanya6k

Pretty big difference, huh? If you click on the second image presented here, you can see me complain about how the textures don't get turned 3-d. Pity.

I continued on this way until I felt I had mastered nearly all of Adobe Illustrator and began to love it much more than boring ol' photoshop. I can feel all you sketch and paintbrush artists cringing at what I just said. Truth of the matter is, we never used photoshop to make painterly things, so I didn't know it could be used for that until much, much later. So below, I list things that probably would've been better if created with photoshop.

A portrait of my boyfriend, created with illustrator:

A painterly style peach, created with illustrator (I bet you can't even tell):
A painting of Peaches by tanya6k

You detecting a theme here? I learned so much about illustrator, I began to convince myself that photoshop was good for nothing more than text placement, which is what I use it for today, although I'm beginning to expand upon that as well. Just take a look at the first completed coloring challenge done in photoshop (I'm not totally inept, dammit!):

After I graduated, my account pretty much became dead until I had the brilliant idea to write a journal everyday. That lasted for about a month and it was intermittent at best. You can still see these old entries if you look at the first journals I'd ever written. Then my account was officially dead for about 2 years. I never touched it. Never looked at it. Never really thought about it much until I became sick of doing the same thing over and over again in the daily grind. I needed some excitement in my life. And by rediscovering my account, I found it. My first deviation since my hiatus was broken was:
Fan Art Mashup by tanya6k
In honor of the fan art mash up challenge.

I had participated in the 16th birthday celebration, but I don't really count that as it wasn't really that hard anyway.

A couple days later, I began writing daily journals again and even using words of the day from thefreedictionary.com for some new literature. My first story is broken down into 8 parts and is entirely inspired by words of the day. Here's the first part:
10/26/17Word of the Day - flyblown (adjective) Foul and run-down and repulsive.
Let's see if we can get back into this. It's just like riding a bike, right? How hard can it be? I guess it depends if that bike has been ridden through a thousand swamps of muck and grime. If it's chain has ever been oiled and the tires replaced as they wore out. If the paint job was ever refreshed as the years took their toll. I look down at my prize: A rust-red series of welded pipes with only one tire. I don't even know if it can be saved. The back axle is nearly unrecognizable, but the front one can still be salvaged. Tires are a dime a dozen, but fixing the axle will be much harder. I can't even tell what the handlebars used to look like; all that's left of them is a hint that they were ever there. I tie it to my back with ropes and start my way back to the edge of the woods.

It was at this point that I actually began losing sleep over what I would make next, I was so excited to finally be doing something that I wanted to do. It was strange. Almost like falling in love with new boyfriend all over again. I was tired and happy. My sleep schedule has resolved since then, but I'm still very excited about where this is headed and can't wait to show you more! But back to the journey.

I swore I would write something new everyday, no matter how hard it may seem, and some words were much harder than others, whereas others still were so easy as to be ridiculous. Like "ideate." It literally means, "to use your imagination." Not very challenging.

I would find myself using this as a warm up exercise until I decided to also add my comics to the mix a couple days later as well as commissioning :iconyuett: to make a cover page for the comic. It would go on like this for a little less than a month later when I wrote my last words of the day resulting in a massive four-parter. First part below:
11/20/17Word of the Day - redoubtable (adjective) Arousing fear or awe.
As dawn broke, I grudgingly opened my eyes to a new day. Another new day. I had the same tasks every day and could already see the end before I began. The covers which had kept me warm in the night, were now removed slowly so I could savor their fleeting warmth. I could not linger, for I knew my mother would be calling me soon to milk our cows. I quickly dressed into my work clothes and headed to the dining room for breakfast.
"My, you're up earlier than usual," Mother remarked.
"It's sunny," I grumpily replied.
"And so it was too bright to sleep in, eh?" Father assumed correctly.
"Well, it turns out that you're so early, you're in time to help make breakfast," Mother continued.
I groaned inwardly and started towards the kitchen. "What'll it be today, Ma? Eggs and bacon, or milk and pancakes?" I sarcastically sneered as I recounted our narrow variety of food.
"Now, now, we'll have none of that," said Mother as she followed

The reason I stopped doing this was mainly because I realized that mere warmup excercises were no longer good enough and I promptly began working on a seven-parter that had been shelved for about 3 years. I'm not going to spoil it here, so ask me no questions and I will tell you no lies. An old status hints at one thing: it WILL have mature content. You've been warned.

Not long after I'd began picking up where I left off with my mysterious seven-part story, I also found a way to get back into Illustrator work and promptly made my very next comic with that amazing program:
Robot Talk, Issue 5 by tanya6k

It took much longer than I was anticipating to make it and I blame my rustiness for that, so I interspersed the time between by sharing character sheets and a sneak peak of the next comic before even the tweaking was finished.

I now no longer share sneakpeaks and will let the comics get released when they get released. I hope you have learned much about me and enjoyed reading this as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Thank you all for making my time here so wonderful!

Would any of you watch a speed paint/design video made by me?

Currently working on a coloring project started by :iconryky:. You can find more information about it here. I will be posting daily updates as I progress.
Found a way to get some old badges for my profile. Link here. Thank you :iconcuberman3141:! I just got 3 new badges (well, new to me, old to the site).
Okay, got my lineart. But feel free to donate if you like what you see.
Okay, it's been reduced to 1 point. Unless I can get DaHub to give it to me first.
I literally just need 5 points to get this cool lineart. Anyone got spares? Just 5 points. That's like, 4 cents. I would just purchase more points myself, but I don't need 400 of them. I have a donation pool going for your convenience.
